For 30 years, MIR has built a reputation as a leader in pioneering travel to destinations at the crossroads of Europe and Asia.

MIR, from the Russian word meaning both “peace” and “world,” specializes in bringing people together to discover more about the world and, consequently, about themselves.

Our Roots

From our roots facilitating cultural exchanges between the Soviet Union and the U.S., MIR has expanded over time to nearby regions, and today specializes in the 35 destinations at the place where Europe and Asia come together, from Tibet to Tehran and every place in between. MIR provides intrepid travelers exotic journeys and unexpected adventures in some of the planet’s most under-explored and challenging places.

We offer custom and private journeys for couples, families and solo travelers, as well as scheduled small group departures and rail journeys by private train.

Our Specialties

Our specialties include guiding travelers across the entire width of Russia aboard the Trans-Siberian Railway, overland along the fabulous Silk Road of Central Asia, through the world-class cultural riches of St. Petersburg and beyond, to famous and little-known regions alike.

MIR offers travelers an opportunity to experience adventurous journeys of profound discovery, interaction and appreciation.

Our Expertise

Our destination experts design imaginative trips that take travelers far from the familiar, and work closely with local affiliates in Western Russia, Siberia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan to carry them out.   MIR was the first American company to open an accredited office in Uzbekistan (still flourishing today).

MIR has twice been named one of National Geographic Adventure‘s “Best Adventure Travel Companies on Earth,” and is a preferred operator for museum, alumni and special interest organizations across the U.S.

Our Tours of a Lifetime

National Geographic Tour of a LifetimeSince 2006, National Geographic Traveler magazine has selected five of MIR’s small group journeys to honor as “Tours of a Lifetime.”  Each year the respected travel magazine surveys thousands of itineraries to come up with 50 of the year’s best.  MIR trips have been included in 2012, 2011, 2008 and 2006.

These impeccable tours, National Geographic Traveler says,

“…are an antidote to the average—all offered by outfitters with solid reputations in the industry…We looked for tours designed for experience, immersion, sustainability, and cultural connection.”

From the unsung little countries of Belarus and Moldova to the edges of Outer Space, MIR’s creative and unusual journeys explore both the humble and the mighty.
