About the Position
The Tour Specialist/Account Manager will work as a member of a team collectively charged with the responsibility for client services/satisfaction, sales and tour operations with comprehensive responsibility for designated tours. This position is responsible for "owning" his/her trips and ensuring each trip's success.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Tour Planning & Development: be the resident expert on program content & logistics. Manage the workflow of trip development including proposal writing and pricing; itinerary presentation; sales.
- Tour Operations: overall management of all tour ground/air operations. Reservations, vendor confirmations and quality control, client air reservations; coordinate with field tour managers; coordinate and oversee visa and insurance needs.
- Client Services: manage all aspects of client contact and customer service for designated trips including pre- & post-tours.
- Administration/Accounting: tour budgeting; client invoicing and accounts receivable; vendor accounts payable.
The ideal candidate will bring the following credentials:
- 1-2 years proven account management experience
- first-hand travel experience and destination knowledge
- the ability to consult clients, develop itineraries, and manage trip logistics quickly and accurately
The following qualities are also essential:
- meets sharp deadlines
- self-starter (and finisher)
- extremely organized and able to learn quickly
- able to pay strict attention to detail
- easily juggles multiple tasks
- good common sense and the ability to think on your feet and solve problems
- strong computer/internet skills
- excellent phone manner
- college degree
The following skills are preferred, though not required:
- experience with Mac OSX and FilemakerPro database
- some knowledge of Russian language
- previous experience with WorldSpan (or other) airline reservation system

MIR has an on-going need for qualified tour managers. Our positions require flexibility as travel dates are based on our group tour calendar.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in one or more of our destinations in a tour leading, work, travel or study capacity.
- Ability to speak one or more destination country language (Russian is the single most useful language as it is spoken in the majority of the countries we specialize in).
- The ability to introduce Western travelers to the fascinating cultures of Eurasia, and to facilitate meaningful interaction between local people and travelers.
- Friendly, energetic and able to gracefully and comfortably interact with a wide variety of personality types.
- Common sense, the ability to think on one's feet and the ability to confidently take charge should unexpected difficulties be encountered.
- First aid training
- Minimum two years tour leading experience
