The Best Place to Taste Wine: Georgia
Georgians were originally sun worshippers and believed that the sun's chosen plant was the grape vine. The winding characters of the Georgian alphabet resemble the trailing growth of the vine, and this motif is found in Georgian architecture throughout the country. Georgia's Kakheti region is its most important wine-growing area, but the complex Georgian wines are served and celebrated all over the country.

NYU highlights "Lost World of Old Europe" with artifacts from Bulgaria, Moldova and Romania
Along the the shores of the life-giving Danube Valley, before 5000 BC, some of the earliest civilizations of Europe flourished, producing settlements where as many as 10,000 souls lived and died. Archaeological evidence from these Neolithic "Old European" cultures is most abundant in three of MIR's destinations, Bulgaria, Moldova and Romania, though artifacts have been discovered in southeastern Europe from Serbia to Ukraine. You can learn about the NYU exhibit running now through April 1, 2010 on their website.
