Patch Adams Annual Healing Through Humor Russia Tour

Clowning Program

For more information contact Dmitry at MIR Corporation by email or at 800-424-7289 or 206-624-7289.

For over 24 years Patch Adams and Wildman have taken a troupe of mostly amateur clowns hailing from the US, Canada, Europe and Australia to spend a week each in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The program is devoted to clowning in hospitals, orphanages, nursing homes, subways, on street corners - everywhere and anywhere! No clowning experience is necessary, but we do insist that you wear your costume on the airplane and for clowning functions. Come to the engagements full of love, compassion and fun!

Many Russian friends join us on this tour. A portion of your program cost will go to help fund these local clowns so that they can fully participate in the tour with us.

This volunteer program is all about connecting with the Russian people. Please keep in mind that Russia is a changing place, and we may experience extreme contrasts during our visit. We find the Russian people to be very warm and hospitable, welcoming us at many points on the journey.

Moscow is Russia's capital and a thriving, cosmopolitan city. Founded in 1147, Moscow celebrated its 850th anniversary in 1997. The dignified Kremlin, funky nightclubs, high culture and down-to-earth street life make a city that is at once well-bred and wild, huge and intimate, formal and free-wheeling.

The city's population is over 10 million, giving us great opportunities for clowning. We meet wonderfully gifted children in some of the city's orphanages, and bring joy to the residents and staff in nursing homes and hospitals around town. And the overnight train to St. Petersburg is a fun-filled experience in itself.

St. Petersburg is often described as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Its miles of canals, laced together with graceful bridges set amidst 18th century buildings, have earned it the name, "Venice of the North."

As in Moscow, we visit orphanages, hospitals and nursing homes in and around the city, as well as spending some time clowning around in Palace Square and on Nevsky Prospekt.

Note: In an effort to keep the program affordable to all, we offer an optional package of guided tours to some of the highlights of Moscow and St. Petersburg for first-timers.

In Moscow, admire the Kremlin and the Armory Museum, and attend the fabulous Moscow Circus.

In St. Petersburg, tour the world-class Hermitage Museum and the Peter and Paul Fortress. Enter Catherine's Palace in Pushkin, and nearby Pavlovsk.

Receive evening tickets to the ballet and to an authentic Russian banya, or sauna.
