- High-Speed Train Service Between Moscow and St. Petersburg Launched
In December 2009, the high-speed train Sapsan began offering service from downtown St. Petersburg to downtown Moscow in three hours and 45 minutes. The new train's top operating speed of 250 k/h (217 mph) shaves 45 minutes off the current fastest train service between the two urban centers, and is much faster than fighting traffic to the airport to catch a flight.
