Days 1-2: Ashkabad, Nisa
Explore the marble and gold monuments of
Ashkabad and the UNESCO-listed ruins of Parthian Nisa.
Days 3-5: Karakala, Nohur, Balkanabat, Turkmenbashi
Head into the mountains
to overnight in a tribal village home. Admire the ruined minarets of Dehistan on
the way to the country's only seaport, Turkmenbashi, where the abundant oil is refined
and shipped over the shallow Caspian Sea.
Days 6-7: Mary, Merv
Explore UNESCO-listed Merv's five ancient cities and
spend some time learning from villagers about creating traditional Turkmen crafts.
Days 8-11: Darvaza, Kunya Urgench, Ashkabad
