Days 1-2: Hong Kong, board the Shangri-La Express
After a day of morning touring the former British exclave of Hong Kong, board the Shangri-La Express and set off across China.
Days 3-4: Guilin, Yunan Stone Forest
First arrive in Guilin, whose landscape is familiar from Chinese paintings, with mossy, green peaks of mountains and limestone karst formations. The following day, arrive in Shilin and visit the Yunan Stone Forest, a forest of enormous limestone pillars was worn by time over the past 270 million years into its current state.
Days 5-7: Kunming, Chengdu, Xi'an
Visit a pair of important Southern Chinese cities before stopping to admire one of China's most impressive sights - the Terra Cotta warriors in Xi'an.
Days 8-13: Lanzhou, Golmud, Lhasa
Pause in Lanzhou, a Silk Road city, before beginning the climb to Tibet via Golmud. Once acclimated in Tibet, tour some of its most famous sights, including the Potala Palace.
