Trans-Siberian Express Between Moscow & Beijing
The distinctive Golden Eagle luxury train glides from the metropolis of Moscow, where Red Square and St. Basil's have become the symbols of Russia, to Mongolia's capital, UlaanBaatar, from which a short flight brings travelers to Beijing. Stop to explore in Ekaterinburg, where the last czar was put to death; along the shoreline of UNESCO-listed Lake Baikal; in Ulan Ude, capital of Siberia's Buryat Republic; and in Mongolia's capital, UlaanBaatar. Continue to Beijing, checking into a five star hotel for a survey of some of China's most celebrated sites. This deluxe rail journey also operates in reverse, from Beijing to Moscow.
Days 1-2: Moscow
Arrive in dynamic Moscow, where ancient churches sit shoulder to shoulder with 21st century financial institutions. Explore expansive UNESCO-listed Red Square with its imaginatively decorated St. Basil's Cathedral before boarding the luxury Golden Eagle private train. Settle into your stylish en suite cabin and depart on an epic journey to the Far East.
Days 3-4: Kazan, Ekaterinburg
Make a stop in Kazan, the beau- tiful capital of Tatarstan on the Volga, where a kremlin wall surrounds the old town, and both minarets and Orthodox churches are found. Cross from Europe into Asia at Ekaterinburg. Here the last czar, Nicholas II, and his family were held under house arrest for months before the Bolsheviks executed them in July of 1918.
Days 3-5: Kazan, Ekaterinburg, Novosibirsk
Tour the UNESCO-listed Kazan kremlin, the Church on the Blood, standing over the spot in Ekaterinburg where Czar Nicholas II and his family were killed, and Novosibirsk's monumental Opera House, the largest in Russia.
Days 6-9: Irkutsk, Lake Baikal, Ulan Ude
Enjoy a private concert at the Decembrist House Museum in Irkutsk. Ride the old Circumbaikal Railway through tunnels and around cliffs along the shoreline of UNESCO-listed Lake Baikal, the world's deepest and oldest freshwater lake. Near Ulan Ude, visit a village of Old Believers, who share a meal and present a concert featuring their incomparable 17th century songs.
Days 10-11: UlaanBaatar, Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, fly to Beijing
In UlaanBaatar, Mongolia's capital, learn about the nomadic life at the National History Museum. Have lunch in a traditional Mongolian-style ger restaurant before transferring to Ulaan Baatar airport
for the flight to Beijing. Upon arrival, check into one one of Beijing's leading hotels for a three-night stay.
Days 12-14: Beijing
