"It was a great trip. If you have an interest in Russia and want to know more - make the trip. Russia is a fascinating country with lots of interesting places to see."

David Gammon

Mesa, WA

Join the Grammy-award-winning Russian National Orchestra on its spring Volga River Cruise concert tour.  Relish the relaxing hours as we slip by peaceful river towns and mingle with world-class musicians, including RNO founder and Artistic Director, Mikhail Pletnev.  Disembark for tours and concerts in cities not always found on standard itineraries.  As the musicians' fellow travelers, enjoy prime seats for each of the five performances on our cruise.

Days 1-3: Moscow, Volgograd, board ship

Begin in Moscow, surveying its highlights, notably Red Square and St. Basil's Cathedral. Flying to Volgograd - the former Stalingrad - join the orchestra members at the captain's welcome reception.  Before embarking, explore the place where Hitler met his first defeat.

Days 4-7: Saratov, Samara, Toliatti, Kazan

The first stop is Saratov, where we disembark for a tour and stirring evening concert. Founded in 1590, Saratov was one of the original fortress towns protecting the Volga waterway.  Further on, explore Samara, rebel stronghold during Cossack and peasant revolts, before cruising on to Kazan, where both Orthodox churches and minarets are found.

Days 8-11: Cheboksary, Nizhni Novgorod, Kostroma, Yaroslavl, Uglich

Nizhni Novgorod was founded in 1221.  Perched on a hill above the river, its kremlin dates from the 16th century.  Catherine the Great transformed Kostroma, our next stop, into a showpiece for her enlightened design principles. Green onion domes and the massive Volga Bastion greet us in Yaroslavl and the bell towers of lovely Uglich peek over the trees on the riverbank.

Days 12-14: Moscow

Nearing Moscow, we toast our musical voyage through old Russia and the talented musicians who made it possible.
