Borjomi is a resort town in the beautiful Borjomi Gorge. Nearby is the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, a protected area that began as the hunting reserve of Czar Alexander II’s nephew, Mikhail. Borjomi is celebrated for its mineral water, which is still bottled and sold throughout the region. Believed by Georgians to have enormous health benefits, Borjomi’s mineral springs were popular both for drinking and for bathing. After the revolution, Soviet vacationers replaced 19th century royalty at the spas and sanitoria in the region.
