Durmitor National Park

Durmitor National Park was created in 1952 and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1980. Its natural beauty was formed by glaciers as they cut through the mountain peaks, and the evidence of those ancient blocks of ice remains in the Tara River Canyon, the deepest canyon in Europe. Its status as a protected area is important ecologically because of the vast array of wildlife endemic to the region.
