Kaesong

Kaesong is the southernmost city in North Korea.  Capital of the early Koryo Dynasty from 918 to 1392, it is now a center of light industry.  It has a population of some 300,000.  In the middle of town is Mt. Janum, on the top of which stands a statue of Kim Il Sung.  In 2013, 12 historic sites in Kaesong were included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
