St. Petersburg for the Win!

St. Petersburg for the Win!

St. Petersburg, cultural capital of Russia, has been crowned the “World’s Leading Cultural City Destination 2016” by the prestigious World Travel Awards.

Considered the Oscars of the travel industry, World Travel Awards (WTA) has been acknowledging and rewarding excellence in travel since 1993 in an annual series of gala events.

Throughout late summer and fall, ceremonies are held in Latin America, Europe, the Caribbean & North America, the Middle East, and Asia & Australasia to announce the regional winners across key sectors of the travel industry.

On December 2 at the Grand Final Ceremony in the Maldives, WTA announced that St. Petersburg had been chosen over these heavy-hitting nominees: Beijing, London, New York City, Paris, Rio, Rome, Sydney, and Venice.

Lev Kuznetsov, Deputy General Manager of the St. Petersburg Tourism Information Bureau, said,

“This award is a great Christmas present for all of St Petersburg’s citizens and all Russians. At the same time it is a warm invitation to visit our wonderful city during this Christmas holiday.”
