Days 1-3: Bishkek, Tokmok and Kochkor villages, Naryn

Explore Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek, enjoying a performance of the Kyrgyz tale, the Epic of Manas, inscribed on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. In Tokmok village, attend traditional Kyrgyz horse games, and visit a handicraft cooperative in Kochkor. Continue to Naryn, set between red cliffs and green hills at 6,700 feet.

Days 4-7: Tash Rabat, Torugart Pass, Kashgar

Follow the old Silk Road, overnighting in yurts near Tash Rabat, a 15th century caravanserai. Cross the 12,000-foot Torugart Pass on the Kyrgyzstan-China border, the most spectacular route into or out of Central Asia. Spend a morning at Kashgar’s lively animal market and enjoy a traditional Uighur folk performance.

Days 8-10: Irkeshtam Pass, Sary Tash, Murghab

Set out on the stunning drive over Irkeshtam Pass back into Kyrgyzstan. Pick up the Pamir Highway near the little town of Sary Tash. The road climbs over 14,000-foot Kyzyl-Art Pass into Tajikistan, across the Pamir Plateau, up dramatic Ak-Baital Pass at more than 15,200 feet, and down to Murghab. Enjoy striking views of the surrounding mountains, and picnic at Lake Karakul.

Days 11-13: Langar, Yamchun, Ishkashim, Khorog

What’s Included

On Your Tour

  • Shared accommodations in well-located hotels, rural guesthouses and yurts. In yurts and rural guesthouses, sleeping accommodations are shared among several group members, and facilities are outhouse-style. Shared accommodations may be mixed-sex.
  • 18 breakfasts, 14 lunches and 15 dinners. A few meals are not included so that you may enjoy a chance to dine on your own.
  • Restaurant tips for included meals.
  • Services of an experienced, English-speaking MIR Tour Manager with local guides at specific sites.
  • Arrival/departure transfers. MIR will arrange for all travelers to be met on arrival and seen off on departure whether we make your airfare arrangements or not, provided you arrive and depart on the tour start/end dates in the tour start/end cities.
