At the Crossroads of Cultures

Jordan is where the Holy Land meets the deserts of Arabia. The Dead Sea is seemingly desolate, but ringed with ancient Biblical sites and modern resorts. Wadi Rum, the iconic desert used as the film set for much of the 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia, lies in the south. Not far away, one can snorkel or dive in the tropical reefs off the coast of Aqaba. And the same country boasts olive groves, forests, and bucolic villages in the north. Countless civilizations have ruled over and lived on this diverse territory, leaving behind monuments like the Nabataean ruins at Petra, Amman’s Roman theater, and the Crusader castle at Kerak. The influences of these peoples, and many more, can be felt in Jordan. It is an exciting and varied destination with tons to do and see – enough to captivate any traveler regardless of goals or traveling style.
